# Custom domains

> Put a hosted site on your own domain with a CNAME and a TXT record. HTTPS is automatic.

A hosted site is always live at `https://<name>.neuraldraft.io`. On **Solo**
and **Studio** (and agency client workspaces) you can add your own domain, for
example `www.example.com` for the website or `blog.example.com` for a
blog-only site.

## Connect

Ask the [hosted connector](/guides/hosted-connector):

> Connect [www.example.com](http://www.example.com) to my site.

`connect_custom_domain` with `domain: "www.example.com"` returns two DNS
records, plus steps for Namecheap, GoDaddy, Cloudflare and others:

| Type | Name | Value |
| - | - | - |
| `CNAME` | `www` | the target the tool returns |
| `TXT` | `_neuraldraft.www` | a value unique to your workspace (proves the domain is yours) |

The admin has the same flow under **Settings → For developers → Domain and
other websites**.

## Verify

Add both records at your DNS provider, then:

> Check [www.example.com](http://www.example.com).

`connect_custom_domain` with `check: true` reports `status`. When both records
are found the domain becomes `active` and HTTPS is issued automatically;
there is no certificate to upload. DNS changes can take up to an hour. Until
then the site keeps working on the `neuraldraft.io` address.

## Notes

* On the Free plan the tool answers with the upgrade options instead of DNS
  steps.
* On Cloudflare, set the CNAME to **DNS only** (grey cloud).
* Remove any other A, AAAA or CNAME record with the same name first.
* Root domains (`example.com`, TXT name `_neuraldraft`): most registrars can't
put a CNAME on the root. Use `www` for the site and redirect the root to it
at the registrar; Cloudflare can keep the root because it flattens the
  CNAME.
* A connected domain is automatically an allowed origin for
  [nd.js blocks](/guides/embeds-and-cors).
* If someone else's workspace claimed the domain first, the TXT record decides:
whoever adds the record for their workspace wins.
